Step one: Being a teenager

The teenage years have always represented the hardest years in someone's life. The problems related to these years are various, from school to family to friends to love.
One of the most biggest problems which is present during these years is that of being a victim of violence, of betrayal, of rape etc.. Some teenagers don't realise how bad this thing is untill you see it, feel it or even just hear about it.

The film ''SPEAK'' is a fantastic representation of what can happen to a teenager, just like us.
The film is centred on a girl: Melinda Sordino. This girl is a perfect example for someone who has been betrayed and hurt. Melinda was raped at the age of 13 by an older guy called Andy. She was at a party and, scared, she called the police. The betrayal is shown when all her friends dump her because she was a 'squeeler', because she told the police about the party. From here there are some problems related to her relationships with others because she turns into herself:
-She has a difficult relationship with her family, because her parents don't pay attention to her, and are busy at work.
Parents must pay attention to us, be sensitive, be available and altruistic towards their children because most of the time children lie or hide a serious matter because of shame.

- Classmates should not judge, make fun of or isolate a person because if this person is weak she will suffer a lot. This is called bullying: some people make fun of other people just to make themselves feel better, without thinking about the consequences and also how that person may feel.

- There is also a difficult relationship between the student and his/her teacher. Students feel that teachers should be more open and understanding towards them, and for us teachers should be a point of reference when we have problems at school, not someone we're scared of because of tests etc.

One thing you should never do is be silent and bottle everything in. The truth should always be told, and Melinda figures that out towards the end of the film.
At the end of the film infact she speaks the truth to a friend and her mum, letting everything out and feeling better.
The number of rape victims is increasing day by day unfortunatly and it has to be said: it's a very cruel thing.

Teenagers of the world, if you ever get raped, hurt, or bullied, talk to someone about it! Keeping quiet doesn't serve anything..
VIOLENCE MUST BE REMOVED AND PUNISHED!
